Montclair Public Works Unit Secures First Teamsters Contract
For Immediate Release:
Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024
(San Bernardino, CA)- Teamsters at the City of Montclair Public Works Unit have voted unanimously to approve their first Teamsters contract, marking a significant win for the dedicated workers who maintain and enhance the city’s infrastructure and public services such as parks, sewers, streets, sidewalks, storm systems, and much more.
Under this new contract, workers will see a significant pay increase, improved health insurance coverage, and an increase in holiday pay. These significant improvements come after the courageous actions that members of Montclair Teamsters took on September 16th, 2024, where they demanded that the Montclair City Council deliver a fair contract that honors their hard work. Shortly after, Montclair City Council began negotiating with Teamsters Local 1932.
“It wasn’t easy going to City Council to demand a fair contract but after filling the council chambers, and delivering powerful public comments, it was all worth it. This contract isn’t just groundbreaking, but it proves that when we fight together, we win together.” says Alex Perez, Teamster Member at Montclair Public Works.
“This is the best contract we have negotiated with the City of Montclair, and it sets a precedent to continuing to build on this groundbreaking contract which will deliver an increase in holiday pay, additional money for medical premiums, and ensures that members voices are no longer silenced.” says Carlos Gonzales, Business Agent and Staff Coordinator at Teamsters Local 1932.
