Shred-it/Stericycle Employees Win Election To Join Teamsters Local 1932

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, thirty-four Shred-it/Stericycle employees in Eastvale, CA won an election for their union, Teamsters Local 1932, to be certified by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

“We’re ready to negotiate a contract with guaranteed regular wage increases, protections against unfair treatment, and a pension so we can retire in dignity,” said Carlos Ortiz, a Driver and eight-year employee at Shred-It. “Hopefully, Stericycle/Shred-it will negotiate in good faith. If they try any more delay tactics, we’re ready to fight for what we deserve.”

Six weeks ago, on a Thursday morning before their shift, Shred-It drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, and warehouse workers delivered a petition signed by a supermajority of their coworkers demanding that their employer recognize their union – Teamsters Local 1932 – and begin negotiations immediately. Shred-it/Stericycle refused to recognize the union, forcing an NLRB election.

Instead of sitting down to negotiate how to make Shred-it/Stericycle a better place to work, the company used the six weeks to attempt to confuse people about whether having a union was good for them and their families.

“These last six weeks, management has cared a lot about how we spend our money,” said Charles Love, a Shredding Specialist and nineteen-year employee at Shred-it. “We’re looking forward to negotiating with them to make our routes safer, our hours more manageable, our wages livable and our healthcare affordable. And we can’t wait to be dues-paying Teamsters with a Teamster contract!”
