Teamsters Local 1932 Hispanic Caucus on The Move:
Advocating for Latino Contributions and Empowering Communities
San Bernardino, CA — Teamsters Local 1932 proudly highlights the transformative work of its Hispanic Caucus as it continues to advocate for workers, celebrate Latino contributions to the labor movement, and build bridges with the broader community. Under dynamic leadership, the caucus has become a powerful force for education, activism, and solidarity across the Inland Empire and beyond.
“Our goal is to educate our members and the community about all the contributions Latinos have made to the labor movement,” said Carlos Gonzales, President of Teamsters Local 1932 Hispanic Caucus. “We host toy drives, partner with local organizations like UCLA Labor Center to educate students, and spearheaded the movement for Teamsters Joint Council 42 to acknowledge Cesar Chavez Day as a holiday for all Teamster locals in our joint council.”
The Hispanic Caucus actively engages in initiatives that uplift working families while spotlighting the significant role Latinos have played in advancing labor rights. Their ongoing programs include:
- Community Outreach: Organizing toy drives and other charitable events to give back to local families and ensure children in the region have brighter holidays.
- Educational Partnerships: Collaborating with institutions like the UCLA Labor Center to inspire and inform students about the history and future of labor rights and Latino leadership.
- Advocacy for Recognition: Successfully led efforts for Cesar Chavez Day to be acknowledged as a holiday across all Teamsters Locals within Joint Council 42, honoring the legacy of Cesar Chavez who fought for workers’ dignity and equality.
- Infamous Hispanic Caucus Calendar: Teamsters local 1932 Hispanic Caucus proudly creates yearly Hispanic Caucus calendars that highlight various labor leaders, Latino Teamsters, and much more! These are on sale now at $12 a calendar!
The Caucus also serves as a platform for leadership development and cultural celebration, encouraging members to take pride in their heritage and become active participants in shaping the future of their workplaces and communities.
“Teamsters Local 1932 Hispanic Caucus aims to educate our community and show the power of our collective action,” said Anabel Palazuelos, of the Hispanic Caucus. “By honoring and sharing our history for workers today, we are building a stronger union and a stronger community. Too long has gone by and people have ignored or worse forgotten what we have gone through as people from segregation, lynching, slavery, mass deportations, and chemical baths. It’s time we share these struggles and take pride in the changes we created. Our people lived and worked in the shadows due to these fears, I want our people to share their victories and come together to create a pathway that strengthens not only our community but workers everywhere.”
Teamsters Local 1932 invites all members to join the Hispanic Caucus in its mission to educate, empower, and uplift. Together, the Caucus aims to make a lasting impact on the labor movement and beyond.
